Also included with the sight are all the tools you need to be able to attach the sight to your firearm, such as an Allen key, screwdriver, and screws.Īlthough the sight is primarily designed for pistols, the mounting stand that comes with the sight allows you to attach the larger firearms such as shotguns or AR’s. Vortex also includes a cleaning cloth with the sight so you can keep the sight clean as and when you need to.

As with most Vortex sights, the Viper comes with a protective cover to keep the sight secure and safe when you’re not using it. If you’re using the Viper on its lowest setting then the battery should last around 30,000 hours before it needs replacing, if kept on its highest setting, you’ll get 150 hours of battery life from the sight. Apart from that, the sight is easy to use, it works well and comes highly recommended if you’re looking for a new red dot sight. These issues can easily be resolved by carefully reading the instruction manual. There really isn’t anything not to like with the Vortex Venom Red Dot Sight, the only thing we noticed that took some time to get used to was the adjustment settings for the windage and the verticle settings on the back of the sight. When you use the sight, you’ll notice that the glass is very clear, this gives you great visibility and helps to improve the accuracy of your shot. On the back of the sight you’ll see verticle adjustments for the red dot, and on the right-hand side of the sight, you’ll see similar adjustments that you can make if you need to adjust the sight for particular windage.

Venom has also built in an auto-brightness mode that uses an ambient light sensor to control the intensity of the dot this is a great feature as you won’t constantly have to change the brightness level manually if you go and shoot in different conditions. If you keep your finger held down on the downward arrow, the dot itself will switch off after a few seconds of your finger being on the downward arrow.

Being a scope itself, this optic is incompatible with a 3x flip-to-side magnifier. On the left-hand side of the sight, you’ll see an up and down arrow that allows you to adjust the brightness level of the sight. Much of this is driven by the increased interest in Night Vision, and while Spitfire AR's lens does not distort what is seen through NVG's, the illumination must be on, even at the lowest setting, which does produce some light of its own. The fixed height of the Spitfire AR is set at the standard lower 1/3 co-witness, and requires an additional riser to follow the current trend of taller optics mounts. When handling a scope that is functioning like a red dot sight, we engage in a give-and-take. As 1x scope, the rather forgiving eye relief makes the optic feel more like a reflex sight, and the use of lenses creates an optical illusion that “disappears” much of the housing body. The illumination toggles between red or green, for different environments or preferences. The etching of the reticle cannot run out of batteries, as the black reticle will remain visible in daylight hours. Prism Sights have their own advantages as well. The Huey is for active users who maintain their gear, and is tuned for aggression. The battery life on the AMG UH-1 Gen II has improved from the first-gen, but still doesn't compare with the literal years a Sparc Solar can run. The durability of the Huey is only enhanced by Vortex's Warranty, so if anything should ever go wrong, there's something to back it up. The reticle brings more to the table than a single dot, and the holographic technology translates into no glass tint. Where the Huey shows its advantage over other Vortex red dot sights is in the little details. the reticle, a modified dot-and-circle includes a built-in height-over-bore reference point for closer engagements, and has four night-vision brightness levels. The rather spacious sight box obscures less of the shooter's vision from the top and sides, as all components comprise the base. The AMG UH-1 Gen II is completely self-contained, with an integral quick detach mounting system as well as height and windage adjustments that can (albeit difficultly) be adjusted by hand.
